Lord, I’m Tired

Posted by Allison on August 23, 2009

Blurry? Blurry. Typical.

Blurry? Blurry. Typical.

Camera happy, I decided to take a picture of my entire DVD collection!  Minus… the five new ones I bought. And the big 50 pack of old horror movies.

I really like looking at pictures of people’s DVD collection or books.  It’s pretty interesting to see how people decide to organize things they love (and they have to love them if they bother taking a picture of them).

Small note: The seemingly random AOL DVD case?  Houses my copy of Reservoir Dogs.

New Purchases

Posted by Allison on June 10, 2009

Once more, with feeling, I will discuss my DVD habit (Movies are my Antidrug… because without them, I’d actually have drug money).

On Amazon I got myself The Lives of Others for a decent price and I couldn’t resist buying Vincent and Theo because the manufacturer’s discontinued the DVD.  Had to snatch it up quick after my snafu with an old version of The Last Metro.   The lesson is: Grab cheap DVDs while you can, otherwise you’ll return to Amazon and find yourself facing a $44 pricetag on a movie that was about $15 two weeks ago.

So.  Vincent and Theo for about $5.   Good price, must admit.

And today at my local Suncoast, I grabbed a used copy of Benny and Joon for $7 and the original Batman to boot, which made me feel pleased.

(Although, on the ride home, I realized I could have gotten Howl’s Moving Castle or Four Rooms or etc etc etc).

This is what I mean.  I have a problem.  Yeah, I like movies, but it’s getting to be too much.  When the addict realizes it for herself, it must mean that it’s all the more apparent in the real world.

But man, someone out there has got to help me with this problem!  I keep buying DVDs, and then nothing else!  No clothes or food or anything… which isn’t a problem yet, but might continue to  be so in my futre!

And then, there’s my list: List o’ Films to Buy

Because I’ll be damned if I miss out on a DVD of Dr. Horrible.  And, you know… just because the addict realizes she’s got a problem, doesn’t mean that she has the ability to fix it any time soon.

Basquiat: Good Choice, Bad One…?

Posted by Allison on March 15, 2009

Ahh… let me begin by saying, Borders near my house was having a sale.  But since they didn’t have “The Last Metro” nor “The Lives of Others”, I felt content by shoveling out the cash for “Basquiat” because, hey, I like  biopics and Gary Oldman!  Makes sense to me. And if it’s bad, I can just give it to Natalia.

A-hem.  Well, I’m only on Chapter 6, according to my sister’s laptop.  I like it so far, but it also seems kind of hopeless and, what the opening monologue calls, “The Van Gogh Boat”.  Living homelessly in New York, Basquiat wants to be considered as a real artist.  Snobby artists like Gary just don’t understand the miracles of dada graffitti poems after all.

Eventually we’ll get to the part where Basquiat becomes a major explosion of success, but I’m just grooving until we get there.

Once I got home, I realized that I could have wasted just as much money on “State of Grace”, had it been there (I can’t remember) but I never liked Sean Penn much anyway, so it doesn’t really matter.
