I've been thinking that Tim Burton would make a good director for Alaizabel Cray. It's just got that amount of spooky feel to it that would work for him. Imagining it as a stop motion animated movie right now is making me smile, though I'd be a little worried that the plot is too thick to stay within an animated film time limit (they rarely go into the two hour zone, especially for stop-motion animated features).

It would be a good if Henry Selick or Tim Burton got a hold of it. No one else, though. I always thought the same way about "The Series of Unfortunate Events" movie. It wasn't terrible, but it just didn't fit the style of the book. I honestly think it would have made a remarkable stop-motion animation movie, and I pray that they someday remake it that way.
Though "Alaizabel Cray" wouldn't really due as a stop motion film, in my opinion, I do think that directors like the ones I mentioned could shape it into a great movie.

Oh, I didn't know they were making it into one. Although I might have met somewhere that Chris Wooding was working on the script for the film version.

Ah, agreed! And I think on Sunday night they just had a Tim Burton marathon: "Corpse Bride," "Edward Scissorhands," and then "Beetlejuice." Epic start to Halloween week!

Ugh I know. I was in a similar book group (except this one was for YA books) and it always ended up with some adults going "Is this appropriate for teenagers?" and we all end up chorusing "FUCK YEAH!" People take children's and YA literature to a weird place a lot of the time, especially with the idea of "age appropriateness."

"(Also, ABCfamily’s “13 Nights of Halloween” looks more like “13 Nights of Tim Burton”. I am not against this.)"

Seriously! It's so much better than Disney's non-stop screenings of "Halloweentown."

My wife and I are members of a Children's Literature Book Club and I swear to Moses, all the other members ever talk about is "age appropriateness." It's infuriating. Instead of breaking down what the books have to say, they break down what age groups the book should be recommended for. Bleh.
